Quadblogging

Year 3 are really excited to take part in the next cycle of Quadblogging. We have been really fortunate so far to have been partners with great  schools across the world. This time we will be Quadblogging partners with  Brookburn Primary SchoolSacred Heart School, and Springston School.

Mrs Taylor from Springston School in New Zealand has set her class a challenge. So I thought it would be a great idea if Year 3 did the same.

Quadblogging Challenge

1. How old are they?

2. What country and city do they come from? (Can you find it on a map?)

3. What is their teacher’s name?

4. What makes their school special?

5. What things on their blog do you love and would like to try?

6. What do you want to find out about them?

Find out all you can and write this information or your questions in a comment below. Remember to add your name and age and try adding our URL.

Easter

What is Easter?

Easter is the time for holidays, festivals and a time for giving chocolate Easter eggs. But Easter means much more….

Easter is the oldest and the most important Christian Festival, the celebration of the death and coming to life again of Jesus Christ. For Christians, the dawn of Easter Sunday with its message of new life is the high point of the Christian year.

What is the Easter story ?

Easter is the story of Jesus’ last days in Jerusalem before his death. The Easter story includes Maundy Thursday (the Last supper leading to the Eucharist), Good Friday (the day on which Jesus was crucified) and Easter Day (the day on which Jesus came back to life).

It is a sad story because Jesus was killed. But the story has a very happy ending, because Jesus came back to life and visited his friends and followers once more. He did not die at all, but went back up to Heaven to be with God, his father.

Have you seen Jasmine?

A few weeks ago year 3 received a mysterious letter in the post! It was a letter from Varjak Paw asking us to help his cousin Jasmine Paw. Unfortunately, Varjak didn’t know where Jasmine was so it was our job to solve the clues that he gave us and try to contact Jasmine. We proved ourselves to be great detectives!

Here are some pictures of our wonderful journey.

Jasmine challenged us to help build a tower to aid with her escape. We worked as a group using materials that she could find in her small room at the Carters house. Take a look at our photos. We also had to prove to Jasmine that we could her help by displaying some of our superpowers. Year 3 are full of superheroes! Come and see…

We continued to communicate with Jasmine via email. We had to first discover her address by working out the small clues she gave us. Jasmine was convinced that she is being followed by a mysterious black cat. It was our job to let her know it was just her shadow! We also had to tell Jasmine to meet Varjak at the British Museum but she had to avoid certain streets because Sally Bones and her gang were patrolling these streets. We even chatted to Jasmine in a chat room to try to convince her that it was her shadow. It was such an exciting day.

World Book Day

What is World Book Day?
World Book Day is a celebration! It’s a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.

This is the 15th year there’s been a World Book Day, and on 1st March children of all ages will come together to appreciate reading. Very loudly and very happily. The main aim of World Book Day in the UK and Ireland is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own.

This year we celebrated World Book Day by wearing our pyjamas to school. We also brought in our night times teddies and a favorite bed time story. At the end of the day we visited the school library and read to the Nursery Class. It was a wonderful day. What do you think of our photos?

Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day is organised by Insafe each year in February to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially amongst children and young people across the world.

In our ICT lesson we created some leaflets with reminders of how to be safe online.

During the week we watched and discussed videos highlighting the need to be safe online. Have a look yourself:

The Ice Palace by Robert Swindells

We have been reading the Ice Palace by Robert Swindells. We have also taken part in a range of art and drama activities to develop our understanding of the story. In these pictures we have tried to show how the villagers of Pinewoods would protect their family when the character Starjik rides out with his hungry wolves during the night! What would you do?

We also chose some lines from the story and drew a scene to illustrate it. We think the pictures are amazing. What do you think?
